DNA Challenge!

DNA:    CAGTTACCATGAGCTGCTTACGCATGTAACTGAACGCATCTAAG

I hope this was prepared right! It was a bit of a challenge, and even with my glasses on I hope everything matches up! This is like the Da Vinci Code.... just waiting to be cracked!

  1. Hi CarmenD,
I think that your sentence says:

You are unusually hungry about your sleep, it is confusing.

I am not sure if this is correct. I checked it twice and this is what I came up with.

  2. This is what I figured I wrote (I took out the start and stop codons):

mRNA: GUA CUC GAC GAA UGC GUA CAU UGA CUU GCG
DNA: CAT GAG CTG CTT ACG CAT GTA ACT GAA CGC

    Which then translates to:

You are unusual(ly) hungry after you sleep, it is confusing.

I'm not sure where you found a problem, because I too, have gone over it a few times! Isn't this frustrating! (lol) OHH! I JUST SAW IT! "About" and "after" are very similar in the "Alternate Codon Code Chart". About=UCG After=UGC :) You must have switched the letters when looking it up.

And I'm assuming you put "your" just to make sense of my crazy sentence because it looked like I couldn't write a complete sentence if my life depended on it. lol

If you could double check this for me (or if anyone could) that'd be great!

  3. Jacq Thorn, I think you miss-decoded the word "after" into "about" which threw you off the sentence. Otherwise you have it right.

Nice job, Carmen. I turned it into two sentences instead of using a comma. Here is my decode:

    DNA: CAGTTACCATGAGCTGCTTACGCATGTAACTGAACGCATCTAAG
    RNA: GUCAAUGGUACUCGACGAAUGCGUACAUUGACUUGCGUAGAUUC
AUG GUA CUC GAC GAA UGC GUA CAU UGA CUU GCG UAG
(start) You are unusual(ly) hungry after you sleep. It is confusing. (stop)
